Of WORTs and wolves
The WORT Science Radio Collective produces a semi-regular science radio show, The Perpetual Notion Machine. Kaitlin makes an occasional show for them, including this one from last night about gray wolves:
The gray wolf population in Wisconsin has increased significantly in recent years. In 2004 the species was removed from the state’s endangered species list. Now a controversial gray wolf hunting season is set to begin in the state. The impending hunt will be discussed with Prof. Timothy Van Deelen of the University of Wisconsin-Madison Department of Forest and Wildlife Ecology and an expert on conservation and management of large wild mammals in the Great Lakes region, and Dr. James Tantillo, an environmental ethics and history lecturer in the Cornell University Department of Natural Resources and executive director of Orion, The Hunter’s Institute, an organization that addresses ethical issues of responsible hunting.
